A Warmer Winter Is Posing Issues for Homeowners
The record warmth this winter has been a nice change compared to the subzero temperatures we all expect this time of year. In the past 7 days, some areas have received over 2 inches of rain! This has created a spring like effect in our appointment center with homeowners calling in to seek help with their basement seepage and foundation issues. This is a welcome sight due to the fact our production schedules usually run lighter during the holiday season. What most homeowners don’t realize is that the worst is yet to come!
The soil around our homes is now completely saturated with moisture, and old man winter is looking to lock all of that moisture in until spring. As the saturated soil around the home now begins to freeze, it will expand, causing extreme pressure on foundation walls. We have seen foundation walls both new and old structurally compromised due to soil expansion outside of the home. In some cases, these foundation failures caused by the soil expansion have left homeowners with no other option than to have entire foundation walls replaced.
Foundation damage can be extremely stressful when first discovered; however, if you identify the damage before it becomes too advanced, most foundation issues have simple, permanent solutions -- Many of which can be completed within a day! The key is to recognize the problem early and make sure you call in a foundation repair specialist with the tools and expertise needed to effectively tackle the problem. We have homeowners all over the St. Paul, Minneapolis, Fargo, and Bismarck areas that noticed the signs early and are getting their foundation issues resolved with our solutions.
