Bowing Walls...New Town, ND

Monday, December 17th, 2012 by Ben Warren

Homeowner contacted Innovative Basement Authority due to all four of her basement walls bowing inward.  The homeowner was also interested in an egress window and had plans to finish the basement after the walls were stabilized.

The specialist put together a plan using unique IntelliBrace system. IntelliBraces not only stabilize the wall, but are also dynamic, where they can be tightened and potentially straighten the wall over time. IntelliBraces are guaranteed to stabilize inward bowing walls for 25 years.  The specialist also recommended a egress, and to also cover the walls with CrawlSeal Wall System.  The Egress has the look and feel of real stone, but it is actually a composite material which is manufactured in one piece to prevent moisture entry into the well. The CrawlSeal Wall System was also recommended to act as a vapor barrier behind the future finish to help lower humidity levels in the basement, as well as to help prevent mold and/or of the basement construction materials. In its entirety, the project as designed would create a fresh palate for the homeowner to go ahead with her basement finishing project and not worry about having to demolish and re-do the basement in the future to make foundation repairs.

The homeowner was incredibly happy with the end result of her project. Not only were her fears of foundation failure over by way of the IntelliBrace installation, she also was extremely satisfied with the egress installation. The Egress added so much light to her basement, and is so cosmetically appealing, that she has plans to add another window this coming spring.
