Homeowners in Motley, MN own a cabin on a nearby lake. With thorough love for their cabin, they were concerned when they found their cabin’s crawl space was causing problems. Energy efficiency in the cabin was terrible and the crawl space was having major water issues. Due to the lake level being two feet higher than the floor of the crawl space, the area was almost always flooded. This was causing mold to grow and spreading musty smells throughout the cabin. Concerned about the integrity of their cabin, the homeowners contacted Innovative Basement Authority for help. After explaining their situation to us, they were relieved to hear we’d be able to help.
After contacting Innovative, a Certified Field Inspector was sent out to the home to further examine the issues. During this time the specialist was able to strategically come up with a solution for the cabin. The specialist then took time to explain what the next step would be and how the installation would proceed.
With the lake levels decreasing, the TEAM was out to the home and ready for the install. Upon arriving at the home, the crew found there would be difficulties keeping the crawl space dry with the normal lake level being two feet above the crawl space floor. However, with having a TEAM of problem solvers, we were successful in encapsulating the space and keeping it dry.
The TEAM used CrawlSeal® vapor barrier to encapsulate the area. Through the use of the vapor barrier and spray foam insulation, the cabin will be a more energy efficient getaway. To help with flooding and pooling water issues, the crew installed a SafeDri Pro pump. The homeowners are now happy to have a dry crawl space and healthier cabin.
