Foundation Settling...Pine City, MN

Monday, December 3rd, 2012 by Keith Hansen

Challenge

A homeowner in Pine City, Minnesota called Innovative Basement Authority with a foundation problem. Upon inspection by one of Innovative’s experienced specialists, it was clear that the home showed signs of settlement. The first indication of settling was that the side door of the home wouldn’t open. Jammed windows and doors are often the first sign of settlement in a home. Settling makes homes unlevel, which can make it difficult to open and close windows and doors.

Another indication of settlement was that the blocks in the northeast corner of the foundation had a large gap between them. A settling foundation greatly decreases the structural integrity and value of your home. Without intervention, a gap in foundation blocks can deteriorate over time, causing even more foundation problems.

Solution

Innovative’s specialist recommended a solution that would stabilize the foundation and even lift it back to its original position. The Innovative team excavated around the perimeter of the foundation and installed 3 helical piers. Helical piers are installed below the grade, so they are not visible after installation is complete. These steel piers are driven completely into solid load-bearing soil and attached to the footing of a home’s foundation. With this type of repair, Innovative guarantees that the foundation will be stabilized for 25 years, a guarantee transferable to anyone who owns the home during the warranty period.

After installation for the Pine City homeowner, the home’s foundation was stabilized. It was also lifted back to its original position. The door that previously would not open was fixed, and the gap in the foundation blocks has closed. The homeowner is now free to enjoy their lakeside home without the fear of an unstable foundation.

Innovative Basement Authority is the leader in this field, offering solutions designed to restore the home's integrity and the homeowner's peace of mind. If you have a foundation problem, call Innovative Basement Authority or fill out our online form today!
