Homeowner's south and east walls were cracked and bowing approximately 3” inward. Large cracks were visible and mortar between blocks was falling out. In the corner the blocks on the south wall were “stair step” cracking and shearing inward. Some blocks had sheared in half and moved in almost 2”. This corner of the basement was not stable. The homeowner was concerned that the wall would continue to get worse and eventually fall in.
Innovative Basement Authority proposed the installation of IntelliBrace galvanized steel i-beams to stabilize and apply pressure to the bowing wall so it wall would have an opportunity to straighten back out over time. The IntelliBrace system was installed. The IntelliBrace Brackets were installed on the floor joists, and the bottom of the beam was secured to the concrete floor. The beams were placed approximately 5’ apart on the south and east walls of the basement. The Innovative Basement Authority installation crew began to tighten the Intellibraces, and immediately some of the bow was taken out of the wall. Conditions were dry at the time of installation, which caused the soil to shrink away from the home. With the IntelliBraces tight, the walls were stabilized and the installation was complete.
