It’s Christmas! Why Not Give Your Home A Gift?

Monday, December 23rd, 2013 by Betsy Rathburn

Merry Christmas from all of us at Innovative! If you’re anything like us, there’s nothing you like more than a cozy night at home with the people you love. You probably spend more time at home than anywhere else year-round, but there’s something about this time of year that makes time at home even more enjoyable. Maybe it’s the frigid temperatures outside, or maybe it’s the lights and the tree and all the other decorations you’ve put up, but come December there’s no denying how great it feels to spend the day at home, wrapped in a soft blanket with a warm drink in your hand.

But for how much you love being at home – and how much time you spend there – do you pay it as much attention as it deserves? Unless something is noticeably wrong, most of us don’t. But we should! Just like it’s not a good idea to postpone trips to the dentist until you’ve got a toothache, you probably shouldn’t wait until your house is falling down before you repair it. Preventative measures go a long way, and at Innovative that’s what we’re all about. Here’s how we can help you help your home, so that next year you have an even greater place to spend your Christmas:

We Can Help You Waterproof Before You Flood

Because spring flooding is common in Minnesota and North Dakota, we’ve seen plenty of basements ruined by water – not to mention all of the storage inside them. Too many families have their furniture, seasonal clothes, holiday decorations, and family keepsakes destroyed every year when the water rises. It can happen as soon as the water starts pouring in or over time as mold grows and spreads.

Don’t let it happen to you. If you don’t have a basement drainage system including a high-volume, high-efficiency sump pump, it’s only a matter of time before it does. Prepare now to avoid loss later.

We Can Help You Take Action Against Settling
The moment you notice the telltale signs of settling – cracks in drywall, hard-to-open doors and windows – you need to do something about it. Lots of homeowners make the mistake of patching over drywall cracks without realizing they’re just wasting time and money. If your foundation is settling, the cracks will form again.

Our piering systems support the weight of the home and lift it back to its original position. Taking this action right away will protect your investment and save you time and money on window, door, and drywall repair.

We Can Help You Remove the Threat of Radon
Every county in Minnesota and North Dakota has moderate to high levels of radon, a naturally-occurring, invisible, odorless gas. But just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it’s totally safe. Radon has been linked to lung cancer, with the gas being the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.

Radon commonly enters the home through foundation cracks, spreading into the upper levels of the home due to the stack effect. We can help you protect your home and your family from radon by testing your home and – if the test comes back positive – installing a system that will route the radon in your home out of the basement and back outside.

We Can Help You Clean Up Your Air

Just like radon, dust mites and mold can cause health problems as well. While they’re common in basements they pose even more of a problem in crawl spaces. Crawl spaces are often ignored by homeowners who don’t relish the idea of crawling around under their home – for good reason. These cramped quarters are often home to rodents, insects, and other critters who – especially when combined with dust and mold – are not exactly pleasant to deal with.

Unfortunately if you don’t deal with them, pest waste, mold, and dust can make their way into your home and cause trouble for people who have asthma and other lung problems – not to mention cause a nasty smell to take over your space. A great way to avoid all of these problems is through crawl space encapsulation, which seals your crawl space away from moisture, dust, pests, and other crawl space problem causers.

So there you have it! In a nutshell, some of the services we offer to homeowners looking to give their house a little more attention. And who could blame them? Taking care of your home is the #1 way to maintain – and even increase – its value! Contact us to get started. And again, we hope you have a very Merry Christmas whether you’re spending it at home or somewhere else!
