A Waterproofed Basement Ready for Finishing

Thursday, February 7th, 2013 by Betsy Rathburn

BasementGutter Installation in Progress

It’s always a good idea to waterproof a basement before you finish it. By waterproofing prior to finishing, you protect your belongings from damage. While all of the products Basement Finishing by Innovative uses are water-resistant, it is best to treat the water at the source of the problem instead of covering it up and hoping it’ll go away.

One homeowner in Williston, ND agreed with us. Prior to starting their finishing project, Innovative Basement Authority installed several products to waterproof the homeowner’s basement. Our BasementGutter system is the ideal solution to waterproofing a basement the right way: it is as unintrusive as possible while also delivering the best results.

The perimeter of the basement is excavated to make room for the BasementGutter pipes, which rise slightly above the floor to collect water from the basement walls. Because of the wall moisture, the homeowner had to replace the lower portion of his basement drywall several times before finally waterproofing his basement – and then equipping his walls with waterproof wall panels. The BasementGutter system will collect the water and direct it to a pump, while the panels will keep any moisture contained between the panel and the concrete basement walls.

The BasementGutter system goes around the perimeter of the basement, where it directs water into the basement sump pump. This homeowner chose to upgrade their old, outdated sump pump to one of our SafeDri Pro pumps, complete with a alarm to alert you if anything goes wrong. BasementGutter is also more cost-effective than other commonly used systems. It is smaller, so covering is up is easier, saving you money on labor and materials.

Here, you can see the progress the basement has gone through. The new half wall gives the basement a clean and polished look and, more importantly, coupled with the BasementGutter system, it will help keep the basement dry for the long haul. This homeowner was very happy with the waterproofing project Innovative Basement Authority completed in their home, and they are eager to continue their finishing project in the future.

Whether you’re looking to repair your foundation, clean up your crawl space, or waterproof your basement, like this homeowner did, Innovative Basment Systems is the best choice.
